Prime Minister Modi conducted aerial surveys of flood-affected areas in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab in early September, announcing ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh and ₹1,600 crore for Punjab from the National Disaster Response Fund. India received 48% more rainfall than normal between August 28 and September 3, with an average of 75.2 mm.

The floods caused extensive damage to kharif crops including rice, cotton, and pulses across Punjab's breadbasket districts. NDRF and Army teams were deployed for rescue operations.
