The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the world's largest archaeological museum, was officially inaugurated at Giza, Egypt on November 1–2, 2025. The event was attended by 79 international delegations, including 39 heads of state and government, in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. GEM covers a total area of 500,000 sq. m with a built-up area of 167,000 sq. m, and houses over 100,000 artefacts — including 20,000 displayed publicly for the first time. The centrepiece is the complete King Tutankhamun collection comprising 5,398 pieces. Public access began November 4, 2025 — the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter in 1922. The museum project, two decades in the making, cost approximately $1 billion and is located near the Pyramids of Giza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The GEM's inauguration is significant for India–Egypt bilateral cultural ties under the framework of the India-Egypt Strategic Partnership established in 2023.
