The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data released in November 2025 showed India's unemployment rate for persons aged 15+ declined to 5.2% in Q2 FY26 (July-September 2025) from 5.4% in Q1 FY26.

Rural unemployment eased to 4.4% from 4.8%, while urban unemployment ticked up marginally to 6.9% from 6.8%. Female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) rose slightly to 33.7%, and overall LFPR increased to 55.1%. The improvement was driven by rural employment growth during the farming season and increased female participation.
