The Ministry of Labour & Employment signed an MoU with Zomato to create approximately 2.5 lakh job opportunities annually through the National Career Service (NCS) portal. The partnership aims to connect job seekers registered on the NCS platform with gig and platform economy opportunities across food delivery, logistics, and hyperlocal services.

India's gig economy is projected to grow to 2.35 crore workers by 2029-30, up from an estimated 77 lakh in 2020-21. The NCS portal currently has over 3 crore registered job seekers and 38 lakh active employers. This public-private partnership model is being replicated with other platform companies. Rajasthan has over 15 lakh registered NCS job seekers, with Jaipur and Jodhpur being major urban employment hubs for gig workers.
