A devastating fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, killed 25 people and injured over 50 on the night of December 6-7, 2025. The fire, which started around 11:45 PM IST near the kitchen on the ground floor, was exacerbated by dried palm leaves used for decoration. It took two hours to extinguish.

Of the 25 deceased, four were tourists and 21 were club staff members. The narrow lane access to the club made rescue operations extremely difficult. Initial investigation revealed the club was built violating regulations, lacked fire safety precautions, and operated without mandatory permissions. Police arrested four members of the club's management. The Goa government suspended three officials — including the Fisheries Director and Panchayat officials — following vigilance inquiries.
