Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, 2026, inaugurated Phase-1 of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The PM arrived at the airport at around 11:30 AM to review the terminal infrastructure and formally inaugurated Phase-1 at 12 noon, followed by an address to a public gathering.

The airport, one of India's most ambitious greenfield infrastructure projects, is positioned as the second major international airport for the National Capital Region (NCR) alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport. Phase-1, built with an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore, is designed to handle 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA), with plans to scale up to 60-70 million by 2050.

Flight operations are expected to begin within 45 days to two months after inauguration. IndiGo has signed as the launch carrier, followed by Akasa Air and Air India Express. The airport is directly connected to the six-lane Yamuna Expressway, providing quick access to Noida, Greater Noida, Agra, Mathura, and Vrindavan.

With this inauguration, Uttar Pradesh surpasses Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Kerala to become the state with the most international airports in India.
