NITI Aayog released the 4th edition of the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2024 on January 14, 2026. Maharashtra topped large states with a score of 68.01, overtaking Tamil Nadu (64.41). Gujarat ranked third, while Uttar Pradesh leapt to fourth and Andhra Pradesh to fifth. Karnataka and Haryana slipped out of the top five.

Among smaller states and UTs, Uttarakhand led, followed by Jammu & Kashmir and Nagaland. The index is based on 4 pillars — Export Infrastructure (20%), Business Ecosystem (40%), Policy & Governance (20%), and Export Performance (20%) — across 13 sub-pillars and 70 indicators. Rajasthan was noted for strong handicraft and gem-jewellery export performance but lagged in logistics infrastructure and port connectivity.
