The Government of India held an inter-ministerial media briefing at the National Media Centre on 4 May 2026 on recent developments in West Asia. Officers from petroleum, shipping, external affairs and fertiliser ministries updated the media on fuel availability, maritime operations, assistance to Indian nationals and key stock positions.

The fertiliser briefing said availability remained robust. For Kharif 2026, the assessed requirement was 390.54 lakh metric tonnes, while stock on the day was around 195.71 lakh metric tonnes, more than 50 per cent of the requirement and higher than the usual level of about 33 per cent. Around 84 lakh metric tonnes had been added to availability after the West Asia crisis situation.

On energy, citizens were advised to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel and LPG, rely on official information, use digital booking platforms and conserve energy. The briefing said 100 per cent supply was being made for domestic LPG, domestic PNG and transport CNG. No dry-outs were reported at LPG distributorships, online cylinder bookings rose to 99 per cent, and more than 23.58 lakh five-kilogram cylinders had been sold since April 2026. Since March 2026, about 6.12 lakh PNG connections had been gasified and infrastructure was created for another 2.67 lakh.

The maritime update said all Indian seafarers in the region were safe and no incident involving Indian-flagged vessels had been reported in the previous 24 hours. The DG Shipping control room had handled 8,414 calls and more than 18,064 emails since activation. The External Affairs Ministry said Indian missions were running round-the-clock helplines, issuing advisories and assisting Indian nationals, while flights from the region to India were improving.
