NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule introduced the Right to Disconnect Bill, 2025, a private member's bill in Lok Sabha during the Winter Session. The bill establishes the 'right to disconnect', meaning employees are not obliged to respond to employer communications after work hours, and refusal cannot result in disciplinary action. The bill addresses unpaid overtime, mandates policies for remote work, and introduces counselling and digital detox initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of hyper-connectivity. Non-compliant entities face sanctions of 1% of total employee remuneration. This is Sule's third attempt — she had introduced similar bills in the 16th and 17th Lok Sabhas. The bill is inspired by France's 2017 law granting workers the right to disconnect.
