Among the key diplomatic achievements of 2025, India signed major free trade agreements with the United Kingdom and Oman, and concluded negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement with New Zealand in December 2025; the India-New Zealand agreement was subsequently signed on 27 April 2026. Relations with Canada, which were acrimonious in 2023-24, improved visibly with both sides agreeing to resume FTA talks.

However, 2025 also proved challenging for India's foreign policy: ties with the United States frayed amid punitive tariffs, and relations with Pakistan and Bangladesh worsened. PM Modi visited Oman and Jordan, signing an FTA with Oman. India continued to assert its strategic autonomy in the shifting geopolitical landscape.
