Indian wildlife conservationist Vivek Menon has been elected Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) for the term 2025-2029, becoming the first Asian to head the Commission. The SSC is one of IUCN's seven expert Commissions and is part of a global volunteer network that supports species conservation. Menon is the founder and executive director of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and has been involved in conservation work for over three decades. His election was announced during IUCN's World Conservation Congress. He has been instrumental in elephant conservation projects and combating wildlife trafficking across Asia.
