India reported 'substantive progress' in Free Trade Agreement negotiations with Peru and Chile during the October 27 to November 5, 2025, round of talks. India-Peru FTA talks, launched in 2017, completed their 9th round, while India-Chile CEPA negotiations, initiated in April 2025, completed their 4th round.

The FTAs target cooperation in critical minerals, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and food processing. These negotiations are part of India's trade diversification strategy, especially significant after US tariff hikes of 50% on Indian exports imposed in August 2025. India is simultaneously negotiating FTAs with 6 countries including Australia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Chile, Israel, and the EU.
