Japan's largest power generation company JERA signed its first-ever long-term Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export agreement with India's Torrent Power Limited. Under the deal, JERA will supply 0.27 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) of LNG for a period of 10 years starting from 2027.

India is rapidly expanding its LNG import infrastructure to support its gas-based economy targets. As of August 2025, India has eight operational LNG regasification terminals with capacity of about 52.7 MMTPA. India aims to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix from 6% to 15% by 2030 under the National Gas Grid plan. This deal strengthens India-Japan energy cooperation under the 'Clean Energy Partnership' framework.
