Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced at the State Review Meeting on Renewable Energy on September 11, 2025, that India has crossed the 250 GW milestone of non-fossil fuel power installed capacity. As of April 2026, India ranks third globally in renewable energy installed capacity.

This represents a three-fold increase from 81 GW before 2014 to 250 GW in September 2025. India aims to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 under its NDCs to the Paris Agreement. Rajasthan, with its solar parks in Bhadla and Pokharan, is among the top contributing states, leveraging high solar irradiance averaging 5.8 kWh/m2/day in western districts.
