ISRO completed drogue parachute tests for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission on December 18-19, 2025 at TBRL, Chandigarh. These parachute tests are critical for ensuring crew safety during the re-entry phase of the Gaganyaan mission, which is scheduled for launch in early 2027.

The Gaganyaan programme aims to demonstrate India's capability to send humans to low Earth orbit and bring them back safely. Earlier in 2025, ISRO completed the final abort test in May and the first integrated air drop test in August. India's astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla also flew to the ISS aboard the Axiom-04 mission in 2025, spending 18 days conducting microgravity experiments.
