India celebrated the centenary of Indian hockey in November 2025, marking 100 years since the Indian Hockey Federation was established in 1925. India has won 8 Olympic gold medals and 1 World Cup in hockey, making it the most successful Olympic hockey nation in history.

India's golden era spans from the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics to the 1980 Moscow Olympics, during which the team won 6 consecutive golds (1928-56) and then again in 1964 and 1980. Modern resurgence includes the Tokyo 2020 bronze and Paris 2024 bronze. Rajasthan has contributed several national players and the state's hockey academies in Ajmer and Jodhpur have been instrumental in talent development.
