MSMEs: Rajasthan's Small Enterprise Sector
Definition and Classification
Under the MSME Development (Amendment) Act 2020, enterprises are classified by investment in plant & machinery/equipment AND annual turnover:
| Category | Investment Limit | Turnover Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Micro | Up to ₹1 crore | Up to ₹5 crore |
| Small | Up to ₹10 crore | Up to ₹50 crore |
| Medium | Up to ₹50 crore | Up to ₹250 crore |
This 2020 revision raised earlier (2006 Act) limits significantly, bringing more enterprises into MSME protection and bringing manufacturing and services onto a common definition framework.
Rajasthan MSME Landscape
Rajasthan's MSME sector is the backbone of the state's industrial economy — providing widespread employment across semi-urban and rural areas, and serving as a supplier base for large industries in textiles, handicrafts, and engineering.
