RTDC and Tourism Infrastructure
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC)
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation was established in 1979 as a public sector undertaking under the Companies Act, with headquarters in Jaipur. Its mandate covers four areas:
- Tourist accommodation (hotel chain)
- Transport services (including luxury trains)
- Tourism promotion and publicity
- Ticketing and guided tour operations
Palace on Wheels
The Palace on Wheels is India's premier heritage luxury train, jointly operated by RTDC and Indian Railways (NWR — North Western Railway):

Maharajas' Express
A second luxury train, Maharajas' Express (operated by IRCTC, not RTDC), also covers Rajasthan as part of its circuit. Launched in 2010, its routes include the "Heritage of India" and "Treasures of India" itineraries, both passing through Jaipur, Ranthambhor, and Udaipur.
Heritage Walks and Urban Tourism
RTDC and Jaipur Smart City Mission jointly operate heritage walks in the Walled City of Jaipur:
- Jaipur Heritage Walk: 3-km guided walking route through Johri Bazaar, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City Palace gate — launched 2018
- Pink City by Night: Night heritage circuit around Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh Fort, and illuminated bazaars
Udaipur's City Palace Heritage Walk (1.5 km, launched 2019) covers Lake Pichola ghats, Bagore ki Haveli, and the City Palace complex.
E-Tickets and Digital Heritage
Under the Digital India initiative and Smart Heritage programme, several digital tools have been deployed:
- ASI introduced online ticketing for all 174 Rajasthan monuments from 2022-23; footfall data is now tracked in real time
- Virtual tours : ASI's 360° virtual tour of Chittorgarh Fort was launched 2023; Amber Fort 3D virtual tour available since 2021
- Audio guides in 8 languages (including Hindi, Rajasthani, English, Japanese, French) at 12 major Rajasthan monuments via QR code-based NFC tags
- The Incredible India mobile app (Ministry of Tourism, 2023 redesign) geo-locates 174 Rajasthan monuments with route planners
