REET Level 1 study notes

Unseen Verse Passage (Sanskrit) for Classes I-V — Comprehension at Primary Level

At the Class I-V primary level, an unseen Sanskrit verse passage is a short verse the learner has not read earlier, built from Class III-V vocabulary and one clear central idea. It tests word meaning, central idea, simple translation and basic verse recognition through gentle classroom steps such as shared reading, word identification, meaning work and one comprehension question. Advanced metre, full grammar parsing and new sandhi splitting are outside the Class V scope.

Key points

  • An unseen Sanskrit verse passage at Class I to V is a short verse the learner has not read before, drawn from Class III to V vocabulary.
  • Comprehension at primary level covers four skills: word-meaning, central idea, simple translation, and basic verse recognition.
  • RBSE primary scope keeps the work to short verses such as "सत्यं वद धर्मं चर" or "शुक्ल पक्षे चन्द्रमा वर्धते".
  • Advanced metre identification, full grammar parse and new sandhi splitting are kept out of Class V scope.
  • The teacher uses a five-step method: shared reading, word identification, meanings, central idea, and one comprehension question.
