REET Level 1 study notes

Play-based and Activity-based Learning

For REET Level 1, play-based and activity-based learning means using purposeful play, concrete material, talk, movement, story, role play, local objects and observation so that children in Classes 1 to 5 learn by doing. The official RBSE CDP syllabus anchors it under teaching-learning strategies and methods, NCF 2005, assessment, CCE and RTE 2009. Current preparation must add NCF-FS 2022, NEP 2020 and NIPUN Bharat: ages 3 to 8 form the foundational stage, play is central to pedagogy, and RTE Section 29 supports activity, discovery, exploration, mother tongue and continuous evaluation.

Key points

  • RBSE anchors the topic under teaching-learning strategies and methods, assessment, CCE, action research and RTE 2009.
  • NCF-FS 2022 says children learn best through play, activity and doing.
  • NEP 2020 places the foundational stage in the 5+3+3+4 structure for ages 3 to 8.
  • NIPUN Bharat was launched on 05 July 2021 and targets FLN by Grade 3 by 2026-27.
  • RTE Section 29 supports learning through activities, discovery and exploration in a child-friendly manner.
  • Play-way is not free time; it is a planned route to language, number, reasoning and social learning.
  • Activity-based teaching requires observable doing, teacher questioning, reflection and feedback.
  • Inclusive activity design gives equivalent turns to children with disability, different home languages and different family contexts.
