REET Level 1 study notes

NIPUN Bharat and Foundational Literacy & Numeracy Mission

NIPUN Bharat is the national mission for foundational literacy and numeracy. For REET Level 1, study it as a primary-teacher topic: how children in Classes 1 to 5 build oral language, reading with understanding, writing, counting, comparison, number operations, confidence and inclusion. The key anchors are the 5 July 2021 launch, the 2026-27 Grade 3 FLN target, NEP 2020's 5+3+3+4 foundational stage for ages 3 to 8, NCF-FS 2022 play and activity-based pedagogy, Balvatika, Vidya Pravesh, NIPUN Class III Lakshya and RTE Act section numbers.

Key points

  • RBSE anchors the topic through child development, teaching-learning process, assessment, CCE, action research and RTE Act 2009.
  • NIPUN Bharat was launched on 5 July 2021 and targets FLN for every child by the end of Grade 3 by 2026-27.
  • NEP 2020 gives the 5+3+3+4 design; the foundational stage covers ages 3 to 8.
  • NCF-FS 2022 is the current framework for ages 3 to 8 and stresses play, activity, inquiry and care.
  • Balvatika is one year before Grade 1; Vidya Pravesh is a three-month Grade 1 school-preparation module.
  • Class III Lakshya includes at least 60 words per minute, numbers up to 9999, operations up to 999 and tables 2 to 10.
  • RTE section traps: 18 is recognition, 22 is School Development Plan, 28 is private tuition, 29 is curriculum and evaluation.
  • Good FLN teaching uses observation, concrete material, home-language support, inclusion and feedback.
