Learning at the Primary Stage for REET Level 1
At the Classes 1 to 5 primary stage, learning is a relatively permanent change in behaviour or capacity that comes from experience or practice, not from age-driven maturation, instinct or reflex. It unfolds through attention, encoding, storage and retrieval, and is strengthened by practice and feedback. Internal factors include motivation, readiness, prior knowledge and attention, while external factors include home and school environment, language background, peer interaction and the teacher's role. A REET Level 1 candidate uses this definition, four-stage process and factor list to choose the most respectful and evidence-based teacher response in a short classroom situation.
