CET Senior Secondary Geography of India should be read through four linked blocks: physical features, major water bodies, wildlife and sanctuaries, and disaster management with climate change.
- 2
India's relief is highly varied: the Himalayas, northern plains, peninsular plateau, Thar Desert, coastal plains and islands create different climates, rivers, soils and livelihoods.
- 3
Major rivers must be connected with their origin zone, drainage direction, delta or estuary, dams, irrigation, hydropower, floods and inter-state water use.
- 4
Dams and lakes are not only names to memorize; they support irrigation, drinking water, power, fisheries, tourism, flood moderation and local ecology.
- 5
The Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal shape monsoon winds, cyclones, ports, coastal livelihoods, marine resources and strategic location.
- 6
Wildlife and sanctuaries show the link between biodiversity, forests, grasslands, wetlands, desert habitats, conservation laws and human livelihood pressures.
- 7
Disaster management questions need the full cycle: prevention, preparedness, early warning, response, relief, recovery and risk reduction under climate-change stress.

Geography of India: exam frame
For CET Senior Secondary, Geography of India is not a random collection of place names. The 2026 RSSB syllabus keeps this topic to four linked blocks: physical features of India; major rivers, dams, lakes and oceans; wildlife and sanctuaries; and disaster management with climate change. A strong answer connects location with relief, water, biodiversity, hazard and human use.
India's geography matters because its north-south and east-west extent creates sharp regional contrasts. High mountains, wide alluvial plains, old plateaus, deserts, long coasts and islands do not produce the same climate or livelihood pattern. The same monsoon brings heavy rain to one area, moderate rain to another and drought risk to a third.
Exam cue: whenever you read a map fact, ask what it affects: river flow, farming, settlement, transport, forests, wildlife, disaster risk or climate.
