REET Level 1 study notes
Water — sources, uses, conservation (REET L1 EVS)
Water in REET Level 1 EVS covers sources, uses, a simple water cycle, conservation habits, and safe drinking water within the child's primary-level experience. Sources split into surface water and groundwater, with rainwater linking both; Rajasthan examples include tanka, baori, johad, and nadi. The water cycle is taught through evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, and daily conservation includes closing taps, mug-rinsing, fixing leaks, reusing greywater, and respecting local water structures.
Key points
- Water sources at L1 split into surface water (rivers, ponds, lakes, dam reservoirs) and groundwater (wells, tube wells, hand pumps), with rainwater linking the two.
- Rajasthani traditional structures — tanka, baori, johad and nadi — are core L1 examples and each has a distinct feature the teacher must be able to describe.
- The primary water cycle uses three words: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, easily demonstrated with a covered bowl and a small cup in sunlight.
- Daily conservation actions for primary children include closing the tap while brushing, mug-rinsing, fixing leaks, reusing greywater and respecting tanka and johad.
- Primary-grade safe drinking water emphasises boiling for at least a minute and simple filtration, with care that clear water can still hold invisible germs.
