Wings India 2026, Asia's largest civil aviation event, was inaugurated on January 28, 2026, at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, running until January 31. The four-day mega-event was organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event through video conferencing, while Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu formally launched it. The theme of Wings India 2026 is 'Indian Aviation: Paving the Future — From Design to Deployment, Manufacturing to Maintenance, Inclusivity to Innovation and Safety to Sustainability'. Ministerial-level delegations from 20 countries including Singapore, Qatar, Oman, the UK, France, Germany, the USA, Russia, and the European Union participated. The event featured an international exhibition, static aircraft displays, aerobatic flying shows, a high-level global aviation conference, B2B and B2G meetings, an Aviation Job Fair, and a Student Innovation Competition. India is the world's fastest-growing civil aviation market, with domestic passenger traffic exceeding 160 million annually. The government has set an ambitious target of building 200 operational airports by 2040 under its UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) regional connectivity scheme. India's aircraft fleet is projected to grow to 2,000 aircraft by 2030, from approximately 700 currently. Wings India 2026 also spotlighted indigenous aircraft manufacturing initiatives under the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme, with HAL's HTT-40 trainer aircraft and the SARAS Mk-2 transport aircraft showcased.
