Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma of Rajasthan laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Ferozepur Feeder canal at Sadhuwali in early December 2025, marking a major infrastructure initiative to strengthen irrigation facilities in the Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts of northern Rajasthan. The ₹647 crore reconstruction project aims to modernise the ageing canal infrastructure, improve the diversion of surplus water from the Harike Barrage on the Sutlej–Beas confluence in Punjab, and enhance irrigation reliability for both rabi (winter) and kharif (summer) crops. The Ferozepur Feeder canal serves as the primary water source for the Gang Canal network — the lifeline of Rajasthan's otherwise arid Thar Desert northern belt. The launch of the works, worth ₹1,717 crore in total (covering multiple canal projects), coincided with the completion of the 100th year of the Gang Canal, whose foundation stone was laid on December 5, 1925, under Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner and which became operational on October 26, 1927. The Gang Canal transformed the Bikaner region's desert wasteland into agriculturally productive land. Modernising the Ferozepur Feeder is critical for sustained agricultural productivity in the region, which produces significant quantities of wheat, mustard, and cotton. The project is aligned with the Rajasthan government's irrigation infrastructure expansion plans and the broader national goal of 'Har Khet Ko Pani'.
