Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued an advisory to all political parties regarding the responsible use and disclosure of AI-generated content and synthetic information during election campaigns. The advisory was triggered by reports of hyper-realistic AI-generated political content potentially misrepresenting leaders or spreading false narratives.

The ECI directed parties to clearly label all AI-generated or synthetically altered content with visible disclosures. The advisory also requires prominent labels, disclosure of the responsible entity, and removal of violating content from official handles within three hours. The advisory also covers deepfake videos, voice cloning, and AI-modified images used in campaign materials and social media.
