Shaurya Diwas is observed every year on 27 October to honour the valour of the Indian Armed Forces. The day commemorates the decisive 1947 military action in which Indian Army troops landed in Srinagar and began operations to push back Pakistani-backed invaders. This episode helped secure Jammu and Kashmir for India.

The constitutional and historical setting of the event is linked to Maharaja Hari Singh signing the Instrument of Accession on 26 October 1947. After that, Indian infantry landed in Srinagar on 27 October 1947 and defended the Kashmir Valley. Shaurya Diwas is therefore not only a tribute to battlefield courage; it is also an example linked to the defence of the Kashmir Valley and national integration.
