The Ministry of Defence said on April 25, 2026 that DRDO unveiled Advanced Armoured Platforms in tracked and wheeled versions at its laboratory premises in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. The platforms were designed and developed by the Vehicles Research & Development Establishment and were unveiled by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO. The release said the platforms have been developed to meet the emerging operational requirements of the Defence Forces.
Both variants are integrated with indigenously designed and developed 30 mm crewless turrets. The platforms are intended to meet mobility, firepower and protection needs through a high-power engine, automatic transmission, high power-to-weight ratio, higher speed capability, gradient and obstacle negotiation, and modular blast and ballistic protection all around. The protection level was described as STANAG level 4 and 5. The amphibious capability, improved through hydro jets, adds flexibility for crossing water obstacles.
The turret combines a 30 mm gun with a 7.62 mm PKT gun and is also configured to launch anti-tank guided missiles. The base design can be adapted for multiple roles. The ministry said the current indigenous content is around 65%, with plans to increase it to 90%. Manufacturing was carried out by two industry partners, TATA Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited, with support from many micro, small and medium enterprises. The event was attended by senior DRDO scientists, directors general, industry leaders and scientists from laboratories working on vehicles, armament, metallurgy, high-energy materials, combat vehicles and engineering systems.
