The National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) launched the first ever Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) in April 2026, covering all States and Union Territories. ASISSE is designed as a new flagship statistical database for the incorporated services sector, which includes trade, transport, hospitality, information technology, education, health, finance and professional services, and today contributes more than half of India's GDP while generating millions of jobs. The survey will cover corporate entities in the services sector, that is, companies registered under the Companies Act, 1956/2013 and Limited Liability Partnerships registered under the LLP Act, 2008. It has a sample size of approximately 1.21 lakh enterprises and will provide key operational and economic indicators such as value added, labour costs, rental receipts, digital penetration and productivity for evidence-based policymaking. ASISSE fills a long-standing data gap because a comparable database already exists for the registered manufacturing sector through the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) and for unincorporated non-agricultural enterprises through the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE). Together, the three surveys will now provide a holistic view of the non-agricultural economy at state and industry level. MoSPI also released an explainer document, Know Your Survey: A User Guide to ASISSE, to improve awareness, transparency, ease of compliance and data quality, and has requested full cooperation from enterprises to ensure reliable estimates.
