Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 22, 2026 inaugurated the full 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor and dedicated it to the nation. The balance sections — Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar (5 km) and Meerut South to Modipuram (21 km) — along with the 21-km Meerut Metro were inaugurated simultaneously.

The corridor, India's first RRTS, covers the Delhi-to-Meerut distance in just 55 minutes. Trains powered by Alstom's India-made trainsets and ETCS signalling achieve a design speed of 180 kmph. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) reported ridership crossed one lakh on the first full day of operations.
