Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conferred the 70th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar on 100 railway officers at IICEC Yashobhoomi in New Delhi on January 9, 2026. Twenty-six shields were awarded to top-performing railway zones. A commemorative coin from the India Government Mint, Kolkata, and a postal stamp were released.

Significantly, a strategic roadmap titled '52 Weeks, 52 Reforms' was unveiled for 2026, signalling the Railways' intent to implement one structural reform every week. Indian Railways also marked the completion of 100 years of rail electrification, with over 68,700 route kilometres now electrified — making it one of the world's largest near-fully electrified railway systems.
