The Ministry of Defence signed a ₹62,370 crore (~$7.5 billion) contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on September 25 for 97 LCA Mk1A jets — 68 single-seat fighters and 29 twin-seat trainers. This brings total Tejas orders to 180 aircraft.

The Mk1A features UTTAM AESA radar, Swayam Raksha Kavach EW suite, and over 64% indigenous content with 67 additional indigenous components. Delivery commences 2027-28 over six years. The project supports 105 Indian suppliers and generates an estimated 11,750 jobs annually.
