Provisions for Organised Crime and Special Offences

9.1 Investigation of Organised Crime

For organised crime offences (BNS S.111/112), BNSS provides enhanced investigation powers:

  • Interception of communications (with prior judicial approval)
  • Surveillance of organised crime suspects for longer periods
  • Protection of witnesses in organised crime cases
  • Joint investigation teams across multiple states

9.2 Special Courts

BNSS recognises establishment of Special Courts for:

  • Terrorism cases (NIA courts)
  • Sexual offences against children (POCSO special courts)
  • Economic offences (PMLA courts)
  • Organised crime (State-level special courts under MCOCA-type frameworks)

These courts have expedited procedures and dedicated judges.
