Provisions for Organised Crime and Special Offences
9.1 Investigation of Organised Crime
For organised crime offences (BNS S.111/112), BNSS provides enhanced investigation powers:
- Interception of communications (with prior judicial approval)
- Surveillance of organised crime suspects for longer periods
- Protection of witnesses in organised crime cases
- Joint investigation teams across multiple states
9.2 Special Courts
BNSS recognises establishment of Special Courts for:
- Terrorism cases (NIA courts)
- Sexual offences against children (POCSO special courts)
- Economic offences (PMLA courts)
- Organised crime (State-level special courts under MCOCA-type frameworks)
These courts have expedited procedures and dedicated judges.
