Counselling, Medical Facilities, and Shelter Homes

5.1 Counselling (Section 14)

The Magistrate may, at any stage of proceedings, direct either or both parties to undergo counselling with any member of a service provider who possesses such qualifications and experience. This is optional, not mandatory — the court cannot force counselling without consent.

5.2 Welfare Expert (Section 15)

The Magistrate may secure the services of any person including an officer of a welfare service or an officer of the State Government to assist in discharging his functions.

5.3 Shelter Homes (Section 6)

If an aggrieved person makes a request, the Protection Officer or Service Provider shall make available a shelter home as emergency shelter. Government is required to maintain shelter homes or register voluntary organisations for this purpose.

5.4 Medical Facilities (Section 7)

If the aggrieved person requires medical examination, the Protection Officer shall make available the services of any medical facility. The aggrieved person cannot be refused such services.
