Key Personalities

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950): "Iron Man of India" — Deputy PM and Home Minister; personally negotiated accession of 562 states using a combination of persuasion, inducement (privy purses), and pressure. His instrument: the Ministry of States with V.P. Menon. Awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1991.

V.P. Menon (1893–1966): Secretary in the Ministry of States; the primary drafter of the Instrument of Accession; played key role in Hyderabad's integration; author of "The Story of the Integration of the Indian States" (1956).

Potti Sreeramulu (1901–1952): Telugu activist; his 56-day fast unto death forced India to create Andhra State — directly triggering the demand for all-India linguistic reorganisation.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (1891–1956): Father of the Indian Constitution and primary architect of the Hindu Code Bills; his resignation in 1951 over dilution of reform bills was a major political moment; later converted to Buddhism (14 October 1956).

Homi Bhabha (1909–1966): Father of India's nuclear programme; built TIFR (1945) and BARC (1954); designed the three-stage nuclear strategy; made India a nuclear-aware nation from the 1950s.

Vikram Sarabhai (1919–1971): Founded INCOSPAR (1962) and guided ISRO's establishment (1969); his vision of using space technology for development (TV education, remote sensing for agriculture) shaped India's civilian space programme.
