What RPSC Tests

Analysis of all 9 PYQ questions reveals a consistent dual expectation:

  1. Specific persons, not dynasties: Every question names a specific ruler (Prithviraj III, Rana Kumbha, Maldeo, Jai Singh II) or a specific monument (Ranthambhor, Meherangarh). RPSC never asks "describe the achievements of the Rathore dynasty" — it asks about one ruler or one monument.

  2. Both political AND cultural dimensions: Questions explicitly signal which dimension is tested. The 2016 question specified "art and culture" for Rana Kumbha (not military). The 2013 20-mark question on Maldeo was political-diplomatic. Students must know both dimensions for each major ruler.

  3. Factual precision required: "Strategic importance of Ranthambhor" requires specific topographical facts (height, pass control, water reservoirs), not just "it was an important fort." "Architectural features of Meherangarh" requires named gates, dates, and interior structures.

  4. Mughal connection appears consistently: Din-i-Ilahi (2013), Mughal art (2021), Maldeo's Humayun-Sher Shah relations (2013) — RPSC tests Rajput-Mughal interactions repeatedly. Pure Rajput-only narratives miss this pattern.

Frequency and Trend

  • Appearances: This topic appeared in 5 of 6 recent exams (2013, 2016, 2018, 2023, 2024) — qualifying as near-Tier A despite the official Tier 4 classification.
  • Trend: Rising — 2024 included 2 questions (Meherangarh + revenue system). The 2026 revised syllabus gives broader scope to "up to 18th century" than earlier syllabi, signalling continued emphasis.
  • Marks range: 2 marks (2013 Din-i-Ilahi) to 20 marks (2013 Maldeo) — extremely wide range. Prepare at both 5-mark depth (50 words) and 10-mark depth (150 words) for every major ruler.

2026 Prediction

Based on PYQ patterns and 2026 syllabus revision, the most likely questions are:

  1. 5 marks: "Describe the contributions of Bappa Rawal to Mewar's political and religious foundations." (The Guhila dynasty's founder has not appeared directly in PYQ; the 2026 syllabus extension to "up to 18th century" starts implicitly at the dynasty's origin.)
  2. 5 marks: "What were the main features of the Kishangarh school of painting?" (Kishangarh's Bani Thani is well-known but not yet directly tested in Mains.)
  3. 10 marks: "Evaluate the military and cultural contributions of Rana Kumbha to the history of Mewar." (Rana Kumbha has appeared once as a 5-mark culture question; a 10-mark combined question is overdue.)
  4. 10 marks: "Discuss the significance of Sawai Jai Singh II's astronomical contributions with reference to the Jantar Mantar observatories." (2023 tested this at 5 marks; a 10-mark version is possible.)
